Obsession Confession

Ok, I admit it.  Sewing is not my only obsession hobby.  I do have a sewing project that I am working on in my sweatshop studio but it's not quite "post" ready  so you get to see a past project today.

Last month I threw myself a birthday party.  I really don't like birthday parties but since it was a "milestone" year, I knew that if I didn't do it, someone would plan a surprise party and I would show up without makeup and dressed in something completely inappropriate.  I like to plan parties and had decided a few months ago that I wanted to do a vintage ice cream social and since I was about to become "vintage" myself it was the perfect opportunity.  So, back to the reason for this post.  I tend to "obsess" about things that I am working on.  I like to think that I am just a perfectionist but I have heard other words for it.  Whatever.  For this party, I made several fabric banners (which I don't have pictures of at the moment) and lots of paper craft projects.  Today I ran across this bunch of unused paper flags.  I only needed a couple dozen to use for fruit skewers but once I got started, I couldn't stop.  Anyone need some flags:)

Here they are as fruit skewers

I even made labels for the ice cream toppings (as if they wouldn't know what they were)

I  made home made coconut ice cream (my favorite) and fresh strawberry ice cream. The ice cream social was a hit.  Oh and in case you were wondering, wine and ice cream aren't bad together:)

One more picture that I ran across today while looking for these.  I couldn't resist taking a picture of this yummy bowl of fruit that Goose and I shared this summer at one of our backyard picnics.  I miss summer already!

A blanket kind of day

Yesterday was sunny and 80 degrees, yes one last blast of summer.  Today we woke up to rain... I guess it really is fall and time to start thinking about short days, long nights and cold!  It was a good day to make some warm cozy blankets for little moppets.

The first is a special order for "C" and sweet baby "L".  She wanted a warm stroller/car seat blanket.  Not too big and not too light since it is likely to see some dirt on occasion.  "C" picked this lovely Carnival Bloom fabric by Michael Miller in flannel and a coordinating hot pink minky backing.  It is sooo soft and is bound to keep baby "L"s toes nice and toasty this winter!

The next blanket is a larger version of one that I recently made as a special order.  I loved how it turned out so much that I got more fabric and made one for my etsy shop.  The pink side is "Olivia's Holiday" Chandelier by Free Spirit and the backing is an incredibly soft minky that looks like a mink coat (not to worry, it really is just minky fabric).  So luxurious!  It's one "Swanky Blanky" and toasty warm!  I want one for myself

Makes you almost wish for the cold weather right?

Don't you just love this fabric!

I spotted this (Alexander Henry, Fashionista Fabric) on a recent trip to my favorite fabric store and just knew I had to do something with it!  In this case, I made it into a lovely nursing cover up.  What mom wouldn't  love to use this?  And, why didn't they have neat stuff like this 25 (and more) years ago?  I even had enough left to make a matching burp cloth!  I am very frugal with my fabric scraps (ok, I hoard them)!  My 4 year old daughter whom I will refer to as "goose" on this blog (as in silly goose) loves to collect my scraps but I usually don't hand them over unless they are too small to even be used for an applique!

Anyway, back to the real purpose of this post...My love of a particular fabric is almost always the inspiration for my designs.  I visit my favorite fabric shop often (more often than I can admit) and always find something that I love but don't know just what I am going to use it for.  Then, sometime in the middle of the night (isn't this what quiet time is for) I come up with some ideas and go from there....

Welcome!

Disclaimer:  I'm new at this blogging thing so please bear with me.  I have created this blog to keep you all up to date with my projects.  This may include past, present and future (these are the ones that I come up with at 2:00 A.M. when I should be sleeping).  If you check back often, you might just be the first to see what I will be listing in my Etsy shop soon!  More later.....
