Baby Leg Warmers

We had a crazy busy weekend doing all sorts of holiday prep stuff, it was lot of fun.  It started with Moppet's winter festival on Friday then we got our Christmas tree and decorated it on Saturday and had our annual cookie baking day on Sunday!  Whew!  This meant that I had to put my sewing projects away for a few days but I was back at it today.  I had several things I could have worked on but wanted to do something different today.  I picked up some knee socks on clearance last winter and I ran across them last week while I was attempting to organize my sewing stuff so I decided to do something with them.  I know this isn't very exciting and there are a million tutorials on how to make baby leg warmers from knee socks but since I took pictures while I was working on them, I am showing them to you anyway!

These were actually women's extra long, over the knee highs

they would have been too long for baby leg warmers so I cut them higher above heel than I normally would

then I took the longer top part and the strip that I cut from the foot (don't worry, I found something to do with the heel piece, I'll show you later)

I folded the foot piece in half, right side out....

and pinned right sides together to the raw edge of the long piece

making sure all three edges are lined up

and sewed them together with a stretch stitch

and there you have it, cute baby leg warmers for a couple of dollars!

here's another version...these were just regular length women's knee highs...santa style....

so I cut them just above the heel and

made some festive baby leggies!  Oh, and I even figured out a use for the toe pieces from the socks

with a pom pom attached they became a holiday stocking cap for "bug", Moppet's lovie!  I made two because she actually has two lovies!  I know, silly right but Moppet is thrilled when I make something for her bugs!

and the heel piece from the pink sock became a warm winter turtleneck sweater for bug...

just a cut in the heel piece makes a great opening for wings!  Perfect!

check back soon to see another fun little project that I worked on today....
